The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) announced that it has intercepted two irregular migration attempts in the West Coast Region.

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) on 17 September 2026 intercepted 104 prospective irregular migrants in two separate operations in the West Coast Region (WCR).

A Senegalese national suspected of migrant smuggling was also arrested and remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

In a separate operation in Sanyang, a joint team comprising the GID, Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), and Gambia Police Force (GPF) disrupted a planned irregular sea departure, intercepting 81 prospective migrants-including 21 Gambians, 50 Senegalese, and 10 Guineans. The group consisted of 78 adult males, 2 adult females, and 1 minor.

The operations reaffirm the GID's commitment to inter-agency collaboration in combating irregular migration and transnational organized crime while strengthening border management and governance.
