Former Jimara MP Hon. Alhaji Sowe has criticized residents who previously protested power outages in the Upper River Region (URR), suggesting they should instead celebrate the arrival of newly delivered electricity generators.
Speaking alongside President Adama Barrow at a public meeting in Bakadagi, Sowe argued that those involved in recent demonstrations over electricity cuts should apologize and account for property damaged during the protests. He highlighted that several URR villages have gone without electricity since independence, framing the new generators as a major milestone.
Sowe also commented on the region's changing political landscape, noting that the political realignment between the National People's Party (NPP) and the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) effectively secures the URR for the ruling party. Calling on voters to support President Barrow in upcoming elections, Sowe asserted that opposition candidates should receive no votes in the region.
